A DDP Motorcycle Helmet Quote Is Not Ready Until the U.S. Import Role Is Named
Before approving a delivered motorcycle helmet quote, confirm the named U.S. destination, importer of record, broker, duty basis and carton scope.
A distributor asks for a door-delivered quote for motorcycle helmets. The supplier replies “DDP, all included.” Before comparing that number with an FCA or FOB quote, the buyer should decide whether the U.S. import path is defined well enough to price the order.
Put the helmet configuration beside the delivery term
First freeze the quote basis: helmet model and revision, sizes and colors, visor configuration, units per carton, carton count, destination address and receiving point. These fields determine what is actually moving. MOQ, lead time, certification scope and production consistency remain to be verified for the quoted model; a delivery term does not prove them.
Then ask for a three-party handoff record:
- Seller: Which legal entity contracts the freight and undertakes import clearance under the proposed DDP Incoterms® 2020 term? What exact destination is named?
- Importer of record: Which legal entity will appear on the U.S. entry? Do not assume this is the buyer or the China supplier from the phrase “DDP.”
- Licensed broker: Who appoints the broker and supplies the classification, value, origin and product documents for entry review?
The ICC's DDP rule allocates import-clearance and duty obligations to the seller in the sales contract and defines delivery at a named place, ready for unloading. CBP's broker guidance separately describes the importer of record's reasonable-care duty. Contract wording does not replace a workable customs-entry arrangement.

Pause: “DDP” is the only description of import responsibility.
